Online EMDR Therapy

Online EMDR Therapy for UK & International Clients

Some experiences stay with us not because we haven’t thought about them enough, but because they haven’t been fully processed by the nervous system. EMDR therapy offers a way of working with these experiences that doesn’t rely on detailed retelling or constant analysis.

I offer online EMDR therapy for clients across the UK and internationally, integrating EMDR within a broader, trauma-informed psychotherapy approach. The work is paced carefully, relational, and tailored to you — not rushed or formulaic.

What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy originally developed to treat trauma. It helps the brain reprocess experiences that remain “stuck”, continuing to trigger distress long after the event itself has passed.

Rather than focusing on talking through memories repeatedly, EMDR works with how memories are held in the brain and body. Through bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping), the nervous system is supported to process these experiences in a way that allows them to lose their emotional charge.

Many people describe EMDR as helping memories feel more distant, less vivid, or less overwhelming — no longer intruding into the present in the same way.

How I Work with EMDR

I don’t use EMDR as a stand-alone technique or a quick intervention. My work is grounded in trauma-informed psychotherapy, meaning that safety, pacing, and relational trust come first.

Before any EMDR processing begins, we take time to:

  • understand your history and current difficulties

  • stabilise your nervous system

  • build internal and external resources

  • ensure EMDR feels appropriate and manageable

For some people, EMDR becomes a central part of the work. For others, it’s one element within a longer-term therapeutic process. We decide together what feels right, and the approach can evolve over time.

What EMDR Can Help With

Online EMDR therapy can be helpful for a wide range of difficulties, including:

  • single-incident trauma

  • complex or developmental trauma

  • anxiety and panic

  • phobias

  • distressing memories

  • attachment and relationship difficulties

  • chronic stress or emotional overwhelm

Some clients come specifically seeking EMDR. Others begin therapy for more general reasons and discover that EMDR may be a useful way of working with underlying experiences.

Is EMDR Effective Online?

Yes. EMDR can be delivered effectively online when it’s adapted thoughtfully and supported by a strong therapeutic relationship.

Online EMDR allows us to:

  • work from the safety of your own space

  • pace sessions carefully

  • integrate the work more gently into daily life

  • continue consistently, even if you travel or live abroad

I work with clients based in London, across the UK, and internationally, offering online EMDR sessions via secure video.

What Online EMDR Looks Like

We begin with a gentle, supportive phase focused on resourcing — creating emotional tools you can use inside and outside of therapy. This is especially important for online work, where we make sure you feel safe and regulated from the very beginning.

Once you feel ready, we begin reprocessing stuck memories, emotions, or sensations — always at your pace, and with care. We don’t need to focus on the entire story if that feels too overwhelming. EMDR allows you to work with what your nervous system is ready to release, one step at a time.

EMDR Support I Offer

Trauma is not defined only by what happened, but by how overwhelming it felt to your system at the time. EMDR works directly with this level of experience — supporting the nervous system to update its sense of safety.

Because many people I work with have experienced chronic stress, emotional neglect, or relational trauma rather than one clear event, EMDR is often integrated slowly and flexibly. We pay attention not just to memories, but to present-day responses, emotional patterns, and bodily signals.

This allows the work to feel contained rather than destabilising.

EMDR Online and In Person

EMDR can be offered as a standalone service if you’re already working with another therapist. We’ll focus on the resourcing and reprocessing components while respecting the other work you’re doing. I offer EMDR online and in person.

Psychotherapy Online and In Person

If you’d like a more integrative approach, we can combine EMDR with ongoing talk therapy. This is often helpful for clients who want space to explore relationships, identity, and emotional regulation alongside trauma work. I offer psychotherapy online as.part of the EMDR process

How EMDR Fits Within My Online Therapy Practice

EMDR is offered as part of my wider online therapy practice for UK and international clients. My work also includes relational psychotherapy and Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and these approaches often overlap.

If you’re unsure whether EMDR is the right place to start, we can explore that together.

You can read more about my broader work as an online therapist for UK and international clients, or about Pain Reprocessing Therapy if chronic pain is part of your experience.

EMDR Therapy: Common Questions

Do I need to talk in detail about what happened?

Not necessarily. EMDR does not require you to describe traumatic events in full detail. We work in a way that feels manageable and respectful of your boundaries.

Is EMDR suitable for complex or long-term trauma?

Yes, when it’s integrated within a trauma-informed framework. For complex trauma, EMDR is often slower and more relational, with an emphasis on safety and regulation.

How long does EMDR therapy take?

There’s no fixed timeline. Some people notice changes relatively quickly, while others benefit from longer-term work. We review and adjust the pace together.

Can EMDR be combined with other therapy approaches?

Yes. In my work, EMDR is often combined with relational psychotherapy and nervous-system-focused approaches, depending on your needs.
